Another milestone for Sea Feather Estate: the first villa has been officially sold. A Supreme Villa on plot 5, purchased by an American couple from Maryland who first came to the island for a diving trip at Golden Rock Resort. In their own words, here is how their decision took shape.

Eleven Dives, and One Decision: Our Home on Plot 5

Only six weeks ago, we arrived on St. Eustatius for a diving trip. We spent a week at Golden Rock Resort and made eleven dives during that time. The diving itself was exceptional โ€” volcanic pinnacles rising from the deep, reefs that still feel untouched, and a quiet and clarity that are increasingly rare in the Caribbean. And what began as a quiet week underwater, became something considerably larger.

The first official owners

The island reached us immediately. The calm, the space, the untouched underwater world, and, at the resort itself, the quality, the attention to detail, and the atmosphere. During our stay, we learned about a new villa project taking shape on the grounds of the resort: Sea Feather Estate. Two model villas were already under construction, and the vision behind the project convinced us so completely that we decided to move forward with a purchase that same day.

With that decision, we became the first official owners at Sea Feather Estate. Work can now also begin on our own home: a Supreme Villa on plot 5.

Capturing the finest view of the Atlantic

Last weekend, we returned to St. Eustatius for two days to stake out the plot together with Martin de Reus. We positioned the villa to capture the finest possible view of the Atlantic, with a direct line of sight toward St. Kitts and St. Barths on the horizon. It is exactly the place where we can already picture our mornings, afternoons, and evenings.

This second visit also gave us the chance to truly discover the island beyond the resort. We spent time in the village, met people along the way, and experienced the warmth, the ease, and the unhurried character of the Statian community. That, as much as anything, confirmed that we had chosen the right place.

A standard we trust

Beyond the lifestyle and the long-term investment case, we were drawn to the stability and convenience of owning on the grounds of an established resort. For us, that was a far better fit than a standalone home elsewhere on the island: the infrastructure, the services, and the day-to-day care of the estate are already in place, and they are held to a standard we trust.

The fact that St. Eustatius is a Dutch island added a meaningful layer of reassurance โ€” a familiar legal framework, full freehold under Caribbean Dutch law, and a stable jurisdiction that makes this a secure place for our investment, today and over the long term. The optional rental program was another consideration. Being among the first on the resort to offer a villa that can comfortably host a larger family or group felt, to us, like arriving at exactly the right moment.

The essentials of our new chapter

Construction begins shortly, with an expected build time of nine months.
The villa will be delivered fully furnished.
The indoor garage will be converted into a home office that doubles as a fourth bedroom, giving us the flexibility to work from the island and to welcome family in comfort.
The decision was made during our vacation, which, for us, is an unusually swift investment.

A Place to Return To

The months ahead are something we already look forward to in their own right. Martin de Reus will keep us informed as construction progresses, and we plan to return to the island several times to see the villa take shape with our own eyes. And once it is ready, we look forward to spending time at the home on a regular basis โ€” settling into its generous layout, welcoming our children and grandchildren, and sharing this quiet corner of the Caribbean with the people who matter most to us.

With the sale of plot 5, Sea Feather Estate takes the first step in a deliberately measured development, with only five villas released per year. We thank our first owners for their trust, and we look forward to the day they receive their keys.
